Malcolm McMichael- Chief Financial Officer
Malcolm is an accountant and consultant with over 30 years of experience in management, audit, financial analysis and modeling, economic research, and grant writing. His strengths include accounting systems development, workflow, and financial systems improvement, financial modeling, project management, strategic planning, fundraising support, and performance reporting.
Malcolm grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and earned an Accounting degree from Indiana University. He got his start as an auditor for KPMG in Chicago and progressed through roles as Controller, CFO, and management consultant with a variety of organizations of different sizes and industries. He has extensive experience in change management and project management, and particularly enjoys serving as a staff trainer/mentor and planning facilitator.
Malcolm has worked with a variety of nonprofit organizations in grant writing, financial reporting enhancement, and board development/strategic planning. As a fundraiser, he has raised nearly $4 million in grants for his clients and participated in tens of millions of dollars in investor raises and loan acquisitions.
Malcolm has called Carbondale home since 1996, where he now raises two teen boys with his wife, enjoying the usual array of outdoor recreation, camping, and music festivals. His wife, Betsy, is a teacher at Crystal River Elementary School.
Ascendigo’s mission is close to Malcolm’s heart. Malcolm has done a great deal of volunteer work in youth-serving roles such as sports coaching and scouting, Malcolm has served on the Board of Directors of Little League and KDNK, and held leadership roles in several other non-profits. The addition of Malcolm to our staff provides important additional expertise to the Ascendigo team.
